Giant TCX 3 2012 Review
Giant have released the all new TCX 3 for 2012 and once again the bike provides solid and enjoyable cyclocross performance with an excellent frame to boot. At sub £700 the price of the TCX is an indicator that it doesn’t feature the top of the range components of the more expensive models but Giant have still managed to include an aluminium fork and Shimano shifting and brake levers. The TCX 3 is the ideal choice for riders looking for a versatile bike that can be used for race cross events, dirt road trails and fun weekend rides in any conditions. The real star on the TCX is the ALUXX SL-Grade aluminium frame that provides responsive handling, a light weight and an oversized headtube.
Giant have also included Shimano 2300, 8 speed shifters, Shimano 2300 brake levers and Tektro CR-720, cyclecross specific brakes. The chainset on the TCX is a FSA Omega triple with a 30x42x52 combination which should provide a gear ratio for just about any condition. The rims are Giant CR51 double walled, while the tyres are Kenda Small Block Eight (700x35c).
The fact Giant have been able to keep the price so low is largely down to using a lot of their own components. The TCX 3 also comes with a Giant Connect (31.8mm) handlebar, Giant Sport stem and seat-post and a Giant Performance road saddle. The bike also comes with rear rack mounts to enable you to attach a pannier and load up for those weekend trips.
The Giant TCX 3 is a great all-round cyclocross bike. It is equally at home on Race Cross courses, dirt tracks or rough trails and can even be used as a commuter bike during the week. It’s light weight frame and rugged tyres mean it offers excellent handling and will stay stable no matter what terrain is below the wheels.
