Kona Honky Tonk 2011 Review
Kona was formed in 1988, and is still run by active, keen and dedicated cyclists and whilst they are a small company compared to other manufacturers, Kona’s dedication to making brilliant products ensure that they remain a leading bike brand. The Kona Honky Tonk 2011 is stamped with Kona’s quality, the frame is made using Kona Cromoly Butted which is extremely taut providing the cyclist with a frame that does not flex under prolonged and excessive pressure and continually provides effective power transfer between cyclist and bike, producing phenomenal results.
The 2011 version includes some subtle upgrades compared to previous versions, for example the bike now includes the more expensive and high quality smooth Tiagra STI shifters with Sora mechanics and Kona seatpost, remarkably improves the overall performance of the bike. Furthermore, the bike also features the pointed, twist-free fork comes in a helpful quality allowing the rider to tweak their position a little higher. When evaluating the Honky Tonk the first thing testers agreed upon was its impressive handling capabilities despite the relatively short wheelbase (99cm), the design of the frame and fork has created a bike that is flawlessly balanced. The bike remains poised and balanced at all times whilst riding as well as providing the cyclist with a fast ride, all in all the Honky Tonk is the best handling bike available on today’s market. More than that the bike is remarkably easy when climbing, with a 34×25 lowest gear the bike is never lethargic when climbing, despite being heavier than carbon structures.
The Honky Tonk features specific details such as a generously padded saddle, keeping the cockpit extremely comfortable therefore improving the overall riding experience. In addition, the bike also includes the newly improved Alex rims which feature machine sidewalls as well as Tektro R538 braking callipers guaranteeing a reactive braking system. With the Honky Tonk 2011, Kona have once again proven why they are a leading bicycle manufacturer.
