Felt Z95 2012 Review

With Jim Felt at the helm of this company cyclists know that every model produced by this manufacturer is of the highest quality. Felt have been producing premium bikes for over 20 years for every type of cyclist, however while they may have begun creating triathlon Bikes, today this renowned company designs and produces a fantastic range of road bikes each year and 2012 is the release of the Felt Z95.

While many other manufacturers are abandoning aluminium for carbon, Felt have dedicated a lot of time and energy to creating aluminium bikes that compare in every way to the new carbon models. The Felt Z95 is a perfect example of the achievements Felt have made in aluminium frames, created using Felt’s superlight Endurance Road custom 7005 internal and external butted smooth welded aluminium. The painstaking construction and first-class material has ensured that the Z95’s frame possesses the perfect balance of strength and weight making it ideal for cyclists searching for a bike that is fast and durable, as well as affordable. Although Felt haven’t constructed the Z95 frame using carbon they have utilised this material to create Felt’s UHC Performance carbon fibre fork, which includes some vibration dampening for a more comfortable ride. While the aluminium steerer tube creates a responsive model that corners beautifully at every speed.

The Z series has a more relaxed riding position compared to the F series having a less aggressive riding position more upright. Compared to the Felt F95 it has a lower geared cassette, a tiagra rear derailleur and weights 9.9kg, 0.4kg more than the F95.

The 2012 Z95 also features a number of premium components, which include Dual pivot brakes, micro shift integrated shifters as well as FSA Tempo compact crankset. Including these components on the Felt Z95 guarantees that riders will enjoy quick, accurate and smooth shifting throughout each ratio as well as a braking system that is responsive in all weather conditions. Available in 5 sizes and in two finishes, gloss white and racing green, it is clear that the Felt’s 2012 Z95 model will be a regular feature at races around the world.
